How would we think about a question like that? How do our worldviews come into play when examining these ideas? What levels of certainty can we attain in looking into various questions? This is a more technical episode, and it contains some valuable insight about our thought processes. Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!

Podcast: The Amateur Society – Dualism And Intentionality – 07.15.2019

07.17.2019 AS

Welcome back to The Amateur Society for another interesting philosophical conversation! In this episode, the group examines the distinctions between dualism and naturalism when it comes to consciousness and considers a relatively new argument for dualism concerning intentionality. Are the brain and the mind one and the same, or do mental states have properties that brain states do not? What are the right tools to examine these questions? What implications so different positions have? Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!

Podcast: The Amateur Society – The Power Of Anchoring – 06.24.2019

AS06282019

Welcome back to The Amateur Society for another conversation about decision theory! In this episode, the group examines the psychological bias of anchoring and how it impacts our ability to make decisions. We often discuss how worldview ultimately informs our decisions, but along the way there are all sorts of cognitive biases that have a tendency to trip us up. While it is never going to be possible to extricate ourselves entirely from all of these biases, having a better understanding of them does provide some defense. Most importantly, this knowledge challenges us to think more seriously about our decision making and our worldviews. Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!
