Welcome back to The Amateur Society for an important conversation about the definition of life. Whether we look at the biological or the existential definitions, there is intense disagreement about key questions surrounding life that as a society we seem incapable of discussion in a productive way. Each one of us must ask these critical questions as part of an investigation of our own worldviews in order to properly undertake the necessary national conversation that is long overdue. Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!
I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
And Jesus began to say to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He!’ and will mislead many … for false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect. But take heed; behold, I have told you everything in advance. Mark 13:5-6, 22-23 NASB
There is an eight hundred pound gorilla on the world stage and nearly every political leader in the world, save Trump, Ader of Hungary, and Duda of Poland, plus a few more, refuse to acknowledge its presence. It is getting really awkward for Macron, Merkel, and May. The atrocities that they have allowed to be committed against their citizenry by this gorilla deny reason. The news cycle is now not only 24/7/365 but it is clearly accelerating. How is someone supposed to decipher all the news they are exposed to daily? Thankfully, God has raised up people like John Haller, who take the news and break it into pieces of data that enable Christians to consider and understand world events from a biblical perspective.
Welcome back to The Amateur Society for a look back on the discussions we have had over the course of the year. It’s been a dynamic and even chaotic year in the world, and we have touched upon major themes across many areas of life including politics, economics, technology, and science. Most of all we have continued to emphasize the importance of worldview, decision making, and being more thoughtful in general. In the summer and full we had extended series on states of being and negotiation respectively. We look forward to another year of motivating, valuable conversations in 2019. Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!
Pastor Carl and I discuss some of the many troubling headlines we read today and give a much needed biblical perspective in response.

On the Objective
With the 2018 midterm elections in the books and the news cycles careening off into ever greater absurdity, Steven and Sam join forces to cover the election from a spiritual perspective and to discuss what we must do in order to make a difference in our spheres of influence. The coverage on the politics and the nitty gritty of the elections is important, and many experts are covering it. We chose to focus on the importance of the decisions we make in our everyday lives and the spiritual ramifications of these choices in light of the themes brought up in this election cycle. We hope you enjoyed the conversation as much as we did!
