2019.10.30

The picture isn’t so clear, and there are many instances where we could say that ignorance is, in fact, preferable to knowledge. We hope you enjoy this dynamic look into the questions that matter and the definitions that structure our approach to ignorance. Thanks again for joining us on The Amateur Society!

Steven Menking – The Hagmann Report – 07.18.2018

sjm-thr

Join Steven Menking as he sits down again with Doug and Joe Hagmann on The Hagmann Report! In this segment Steven provides commentary following the Trump/Putin summit in Helsinki and the subsequent outrage. The dynamics of standing firm in conversation and maintaining the proper spirit are on the agenda as are some brief economic commentary and a couple jokes for a bit of levity. These are pivotal times, and if we allow ourselves to be swept away by the anger and vitriol that surrounds us then at best we will suffer from outrage fatigue and at worst the situation will boil over into more widespread violent conflict.

Podcast: The Amateur Society – Friendship And Fellowship – 04.23.2018

MountainClimbing.jpg

Welcome back to The Amateur Society for a conversation about the meaning, importance, and characteristics of friendship and fellowship! After a fantastic conference in Canton, Ohio this past weekend I was inspired to have a discussion about how friendship is structured and how we should approach the concept in our lives. Relationships are clearly important, but how many of us have thought more deeply about their relevance and importance. We start with a definition and then expand to many different questions, typing in worldview and concluding with a heartfelt plea to focus on these critical matters. I am currently setting up a new computer, so please pardon some choppy audio segments. Thanks for joining us on The Amateur Society!

The Amateur Society: The Art Of Listening

EarPainting

The importance of listening is an idea that has been repeated so much that it is now a cliche and a common trope for observational comedians discussing relationships. Nonetheless, we can – and must – understand that there is great value, insight, and wisdom in the tried and true sayings. Let’s take a closer look at listening. What does it mean to listen? What makes someone a “good listener”? How much of listening is actually verbal and sound based? Is listening enough to help us solve problems and make better decisions? What do various worldviews say about listening?

Join us for another engaging and informative conversation tonight at 9:00pm!

God bless,

Steven

Socrates

Communication is absolutely vital, yet how much of our time is dedicated to understanding even the most basic interactions that we have with others and with ourselves? What we have, right here, on a grand scale, is an epic failure to communicate. How tedious and unimportant can our default conversations get? Life is too short to simply remain in first gear of nagging trivialities. Let’s have some real talk about the importance of communication and its role in building antifragile relationships that grow stronger when put under the pressures that life inevitably generates.
